Title: Need help choosing wheels
Post by: jasond on October 07, 2011, 07:35:33 PM
I'd like to throw my '96 SS around an autocross track, but there aren't many tire choices for the stock 16" wheels. I'd like to step up to some 17" or 18" wheels.  I've tossed around the Vette wheels idea, but the cost of wheels plus tires, plus spacers is quite a bit. :o  Post up what you guys are running, I need some ideas...

Harley and I have liked the soft 8s.
17x9 all around is doable, can fit 275/40s all around.
only problem is the sheer weight of these monsters

but my new setup will be c5z06 rear wheels all around 18x10.5s
already have them, hope i can make them fit

I run American Racing TorqLite 17x8's all around, can't say i've noticed a weight difference but it sure grabs corners nice compared to my 15's. i run 245/45r17's all around, love em.

I have C5 Z06's and 2.5" spacers and they've been working great with auto-X.  It's relatively easy to find good used tires in stock 'vette sizes so that helps with the price aspect if you go through them quickly (like I do).

I run 17X8 Eagle 212's.  Unfortunately they're discontinued, so if you're interested in them you'll have to find them used.  Nice looking wheel, not terribly heavy and the price of tires doesn't require selling your kidneys.
