Zq8 hop shock question
« on: December 02, 2013, 10:07:09 PM »
I have a zq8 it has been lowered with 4 inch blocks for a while now. Well it has always hopped bad, so bad that it actually split the blocks in half. From what I have read my hop shock is in good condition I've just been thinking that maybe being lowered that much if it is putting the hop shock at an angle that is makin it less effective or useless. Since it split the blocks I went back with a lowering spring with a 1 inch block also

I'm guessing the extra leverage of the 4" blocks is just too much for the hop shock.  The damping was designed to control the force of the stock suspension.  We all know the hop is worse with taller blocks, would make sense that the hop shock may have a limit of what it can reasonably control.

I agree that the more the truck is lowered the less effective the shock becomes. Just for reference, here's the angle mine is at with 3" blocks. Mine is still the original and I don't have any issues with wheel hop, but then again my truck is stock. It's hard to say whether it will wear out overtime like regular shocks. It goes through much less travel.
