sleeper nos controls
« on: September 13, 2009, 01:22:26 PM »
when i got my truck it came with an old craig heaunit in it. it didnt work at all. after swaping it out for a kenwood (dont laugh it was free) i now have this p.o.s. sitting in my garage. my mom kept telling me to do something with it so i came up with the idea to hollow it out and put nitrous switches and a gauge inside it. so it looks like a p.o.s. radio, but you pop off the faceplate and you have your "nitrous control center"  B) .

it will have: (these might change)
-1 toggle swich for remote bottle opener
-1 toggle swich for bottle heater
-1 toggle swich for powering the solinoids (err however thats spelt)
-1 bottle pressure gauge (if i can find a small one)
-activation lights for each switch

i would love if someone knows of a small nitrous pressure gauge.

i will not be using this on my truck, i will sell it to make a few bucks. if your wondering on costs my dad knows the owner of a local speed shop as well as a bunch of racers so im looking to get some discounts or used parts.

what im starting with:

unit measurements: (in inches)
face measures(black area only): 2-1/4, tall 7-3/8, 7/9 deep
body other then face: 5-7/8 deep, 1-7/8 tall, 7 wide

found my gauge: *here*pritty sure itll fit :D

There are other things you can do for sleeper nitrous controls that don't require so much effort to enable.  If you have any unused switch factory switch locations, grab an extra on/off switch from the junkyard.  Use something to scrape the original logo/decal/indicator off of it, and use a white sharpie to make your own markings.

From there, put a switch on your throttle body, to spray the nitrous at WOT.  The switch would be wired to the interior switch, so it would only work when the dash switch is on.  The only other thing you would need is a momentary for purging the nitrous lines. Momentary buttons come in all shapes and sizes, and odds are my electrical catalog on the shelf next to me has something small enough to fit through the steering column shroud, perhaps next to the hazard switch or next to/behind the ignition switch. Again, only active when the dash switch is active.

At this point, the only thing you need to hide is the nitrous bottle.

Enjoy.

I was looking through my DelCity catalog yesterday, and they have a large assortment of switches, including OEM looking types.

My personal favorite though....

^ That combined with toggles, Mini Cooper style.

Another nice one to use for a clean look is this, although not necessarily for nitrous

and here are a couple OEM look types

and one of several small momentaries

and a throttle switch (this shows for carb, but similar can be had for efi throttles as well)

Hope the above is useful to someone.
