I know progress is slow and unappealing right now

Have you read the rest of the board??? We define slow projects here.

picked up a bunch of little stuff today, including some fittings and a fuel pressure gauge for my regulator. Still not sure where to mount this, I know for NHRA specs it has to be 6 inches from the firewall for some reason, I'm thinking on my inner fender, depends on fuel line routing once the motors in.

I have a soft spot in my heart for anodized blue, fortunately Marken mainly/only carries just that =] (NPT plugs/adapter, nipples are from work)

Don't think I posted pictures of my rad when I painted it, but here it is with the new dual 11" e-fans. These will be wired to an adjustable e-fan kit with rad probe. The rad is from a vette and fits perfectly inside my rad support, convenient and reassuring of cooling capabilities!

Picked up a B&M line lock kit from a friend for $25, gonna run my front lines and such tonight. Deleting ABS while it's all apart, plus the reservoir on my ABS equipped master cyl started leaking under hard braking when I was still driving it

Why not reuse the 4.3 rad with a set of intrepid fans?, would have cost next to nothing, and the intrepid fans would out do those 11" on low speed. I ran a 4.3 rad/intrepid fan combo, and only had 1 fan hooked up on low speed, and sitting in stop and go traffic It never got above 195° with an outside temp of about 95°

got the vette rad so I could flush mount it and gain some clearance, kind of late to switch fans lol, thanks though

literally lol'd at that comment.

Hope the fan/rad swap isn't to much trouble for you. Doing the griffin rad/e-fan was one of the least fun things I've done it's just totally overkill.

Headers clear, oil pan clears, water pump clears the e-fans, everything clears and fits minty. This is mock-up stage only, had to see where the oil pan sat incase it would of hit line lock.

.

I'll be cutting the mounts to use the second hole, they come drilled in 2 spots so you can either raise the motor or have it stock height. The bracket requires cutting to use the stock hole, stupid but whatever. Brake lines, suspension, then it's in.

I would make a shroud for those fans, not going to do a great job if the air is directed everywhere else but through them. You could make one from sheet metal or even a good sized baking pan. http://www.v8s10.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=20834

ran the front lines

hate doing this...

line lock installed, waiting on upper control arm, inner fender and header to decide where to route the line to the proportioning valve.

aannnnnd a teaser picture. Intake isn't bolted down yet, need to turn the motor over and pre-adjust the valves before I bolt it down (to watch the lifters and see when each cylinder is on compression stroke) power steering pump was put on after this picture.

cleaned/degreased the tie rod assembly and swaybar, slapped a coat of satin black on it.

here's the progress i've made on my bellhousing so far... it doesn't look like much but there must have been 1/4 to 1/2 an inch of grease and grime on the thing, inside and out. not like anyone is going to see it, but I'll know it's clean.

what's left of my engine harness :)

everything plugged into main connector and ready to be loomed then run, hoping to hide 90% of it in the fenders. Also have all the steering on

also, please explain to me the logic behind doing brakes on one side.

question for you guys, please let me be correct... is the thick purple wire with a question mark on it for starter switch? also, if so, is the black just a ground? I really hope I didn't cut something I needed..

edit: answered my own question

Great progress Zach, you're really moving along.
I laughed at the flare without the fitting. When I did my rear lines last year I did something similar, I had got the fitting on but went ahead and bent up the entire line only to find that both fittings were at one end and that I couldn't possibly move the one back to the other side because of all the tight bends. Nothing you can do but just laugh at yourself.

Thanks, Andrew. It's good to laugh at the little fuck ups like these rather than getting upset. $1 worth of line was wasted and maybe 10 minutes to re-flare the line, not worth crying over spilled milk I guess you could say. It just feels good to look at myself and be happy that I'm able to stay positive through everything that's happened lately... from losing a mint truck after a week to forgetting to put a fitting on, I dunno, just in the back of my mind..

Anyway, I got the passanger side all together. Drop coils are 100x easier to install then stock coils, that's for sure. Waiting for paint to dry on driver side parts, should be together tomorrow no problem.

Might also notice I finished the brake lines. They're not very pretty because I didn't know where to run them that would clear header, control arm AND inner fender so I gave myself some leeway.

Here's another teaser of the motor, it looks better than it goes haha.

Very happy with my colour decisions. Also picked up the belts and put them on. Few minor touches and adjustments tomorrow and hopefully It'll be back in the truck, but for good.

got the rockers adjusted and the intake on, hoping I put enough silicone on the front and rear..

went to put the freshly re-surfaced flywheel on... yeah, guess what. 4.3 and 5.7 flywheels aren't even close.

Left: replacement I got today. Right: stock 4.3 wheel

Decided I'd try and put the motor in then put tranny in after, so I cut the motor mounts down to run them on the stock hole and dropped the motor in. lots of oil pan clearance, why do s10 v8 conversion oil pans even exist?

You were right, the stock 2.8 mounts suck! Ordering those poly mounts tomorrow, hoping they don't take too long to show up so I can get this motor in for good and start wiring.

As mentioned, I got a replacement flywheel from my buddy for $120 that's been freshly resurfaced. not a terrible deal, i believe it also has a brand new ring gear. I'm impatient, so I went for it. Got the centreforce Dual Friction clutch torqued down, picking up a release bearing tomorrow then I'll bolt tranny on and wait for my motor mounts.

Got "promoted" at work today, I now work 40 hour weeks (was formerly part-time) and my shifts went from varying all over the place to a steady monday through friday 9am-5:30pm. More potential for a raise in this position, which will also greatly help my debt. Need to start saving for my 3 link and 9" before I blow up the 7.5 once or twice...

Scratch the replacement mount idea, parents want it out asap since my step-dad's car needs work before he can enjoy it. Picked up a release bearing today, that's all I needed. If pictures tell a thousand words, here's a few thousand words.

tranny bolted onto motor easy as pie, wasn't worth posting a picture.

step-dad helped me for about an hour and we got it in. Cut the floor out about 3/4" so the tranny wouldn't rub, no big deal. motor is sitting all the way back in the slotted adapters.

and for all those guys that bitch about firewall clearance... note the trans is further back than stock by about 2-3", assuming this is the stock tranny.

Left to do list:
- install headers with new gaskets
- install driver side spindle and rotor
- route brake lines for best clearance
- clean up/paint the inner fenders and battery tray
- assemble front clip
- wiring. lots and lots... okay just a little bit of wiring
- driveshaft
- fuel lines
- rad hoses
- fluids
- cross fingers and start er up!

Driver's side header is on for good, heater hoses roughly installed, fenders thrown on for clearance check. brake lines are going to be ugly once I bend them into the right place by hand :(

spent some good time looming the wiring harness, cleaned it up real nice. Seems I had forgotten that I have 10 or so wires to route from the driver fender to the distributor and coil still, lovely. Looks like i'm re-looming everything. Oh well, I actually kind of enjoy it. figuring out wiring sucks but I don't mind routing everything nice and clean, especially for the final outcome instead of a rat's nest.

Suggestions for a diagram source for charging system? Would like go to single wire if it's as simple as I think - alternator charging battery, everything else run off of battery?
