Project Pheonix
« on: August 28, 2009, 08:10:30 AM »
As some of you guys know, I moved down to Southern Maryland (California to be exact). The 1st week here I spun out in water I couldn't see and broke a rim and destroyed 2 tires by hitting a very large curb. Obviously I was very pissed.

Anyways, I took the blazer back to my mom's house where it sits in the garage unloved and on my big winter wheels in the rear. The current plan is to do a full overhaul to get her ready for the next racing season (drag and auto-x) in the spring. So far the plans are split into 2 groups - Weight reduction and Power

Weight:
remover rear seats
remove 4x4 completely
remove interior spare tire rack
remove a/c completely

Power:
Engine overhaul
ZZ4 "hot cam"
Roller rockers
beehive springs and new retainers
Re-install oil cooler
Custom CAI

I also plan on making a custom box to move my sub, amp, and battery where the rear seats used to be. I believe it will help my handling moving any extra weight between the wheels. Please tell me what you think!

I knew you'd cave sooner or later and start trimming weight.  8) There is lots of weight to trim or move underhood if your willing to put in the effort.

I removed the ABS already (I'll get pics soon) I need to trim all that wire, recess the rad, put my fans on the inside, reinstall the oil cooler, and once again, rewire the damn truck.

I'd also like to see the ABS removal. Whenever I get around to the B body spindle conversion I think it'd save me time/effort to pull the ABS.

Ok, so change of plans already! removing 4x4 to swap in AWD. found some cheap parts and all the info needed. The traction outweighs the actual weight to me.

I would think the AWD and 4x4 system would weigh close to the same so at least you shouldn't be gaining weight.

I would also be interested in pics of the anti-ABS conversion.

So I may have chanced upon a carbon fiber driveshaft, think it's worth it? About $500

Who made it?
Composite makes me nervous for street use but at the same time my knowledge is limited.
I do know you could have a custom made drive shaft made by Inland Empire Driveline Service for less then $500

So I got some work done over the holiday weekend. Seeing as though I'm still unemployed for the time being, I'm doing all the things that are free.

Disassembly

Scrap

Well I had the sweat, the blood was sure to be present. lol My garage looked like a murder scene.

Up next is the rest of the A/c system and the sound system.
I'm leaving the front end off until I do the cam install. No reason not to.

So last week I was in Pa and decided to get some work done.

Tip# 1: When taking out the A/c, remove the inner fender. It was hell trying to do it any other way.

The start of the engine tear-down

Tired of having expensive stuff just laying out, waiting to get broken, so I hung a cabinet. Soon to get stupid stickers :D

Some parts that need to be painted

I'm still deciding on a color scheme as I am going to paint the block, heads, water pump, inlet, throttle body, and the accessory brackets.  I was thinking black on the block, heads, water pump, and inlet. For the accessory brackets and throttle body, grey or maybe even the green used on the truck. Let me know your opinion.

>>No Chevy Orange - just not my style.<<

Rear seats out, soon to start organizing the wiring for the new setup.

A lot of work left on the core support. Once I'm done with the metal work, the rust is getting removed and getting sprayed a matte black.
This is going to net me 2" of space...to run the true CAI.
