i am trying to find a list of spring rates for stock coils (something i can find at a junkyard).....
anyone know how to start looking?
i started with looking for neon coils, but stock they seem to range from 120-160 lbs/in
aftermarket the few that have ratings were around 220-230.....
for the rear of my truck, i have no idea technically, but from arbitrary guesstimation, i would like to start off with 200-250lb/in coils.
this would be because i bought an sd3link (yes i know its not meant for this, but its all i can afford/work with at the moment [cant weld])
this should cut down on a lot of deflection in areas and since everything is mounted forwards, the flex of the rear frame would not affect the suspension as much.
(assuming i can find a way to mount the coils firmly)
so the idea i see now would be to mount the coils perhaps above, or even in front of the axle, if possible..... not sure how close that gas tank is to the axle.
or maybe behind and under the axle.
my original idea was to use coils perhaps out of a small car with LOTS of cheap aftermarket like a neon.
and that was under the quick assumption that the stock rates for a neon would be good for the rear of my truck.
i dont have the ability to create and spring pockets like jeremy was talking about, so at best i would be able to mount the coils inside the frame rails.
sadly, i do need to create a small notch over the wishbone, which means cutting into the bed a small amount (i hate that)
but i will deal with that..... but id prefer not to cut up the bed much more.

Q1) what kind of spring rates should i be aiming for for the rear of this pickup truck?
Q2) what kinds of vehicles can i get that rate coil out of?

damn just noticed.... i can cut down on the stock neon coils to get to relative to what rate i want
lots of guesswork tho. i hate that part
