Project: The Green Machine
« on: October 11, 2009, 12:30:00 AM »
Finally getting around to putting my project thread on here.

2002 S10 LS 2.2 Auto

Current Mod List:
-56mm Quad 4 Throttle Body
-33mm ZQ8 front sway bar (w/ all urethane bushings)
-25mm beltech rear sway bar
-3" ground force drop coils
-3" Beltech Drop Leafs
-doetsch tech front drop shocks
-KYB MonoMax rear drop shocks
-ZQ8 bumpstops
-flowmaster 40 series muffler
-E-bay Intake
-Taurus e-fan
-corvette tranny servo
-JTR axle setback plates
-Undercover tonneau cover
-Sony Xplode MP3 player
-old kenwood amp w/ temporary 6x9 "sub"
-paint-matched grill shell
-Street Scene mirrors
-Automatic Transmission Cooler
-Blazer DP front brake swap w/ Wagner Edge pads
-Goodridge SS brake lines
-16" ZQ8's w/ 245/50r16 Hankook Ventus HRII (reserved for auto-x now)
-17x8 SLP ZR1 wheels w/ 245/45r17 Nitto NR555 tires

Build History:

How it looked when I first got it:

Rocked it in stock form for a LONG time, eventually I had the windows tinted, put on some apc corners, and picked up an Undercover Tonneau cover.

Later traded the swirls plus cash for a set of old style ZQ8's and also put on a 33mm front sway bar off of a Blazer.

Next I moved away for college, took the badges off and had a freebie flowmaster muffler welded on:

Finally dropped the truck using 3" Ground Force coils and 3" Summit Racing blocks:

Had an unfortunate run-in with a tree and cost me way too much to fix:

While in college I modified a jeep steering shaft to replace the stock unit, installed a corvette transmission servo, had the grillshell painted, installed a Taurus electric fan, added an Ebay intake, 25mm Beltech rear sway bar, and a set of JTR axle setback plates.

The APC corners started to look like crap...after some persuasion by me. lol  put the stockers back on.  Added some SS mirrors.  Found a stupid crazy deal on a Blazer DP set.  Cleaned it all up and replaced all the bushings up front at the same time:

Also added some Goodridge SS brake lines:

Swapped the stock leafs for a set of beltechs and ditched the blocks:

Picked up a set of 17x8 ZR1 style SLP wheels and added some Nitto NT555's:

Added a transmission cooler:

and this is how it currently looks:

Truck looks nice, & maybe I'm missing something in the build list, but.. is thing truck getting some kind of power adder or an engine transplant for more power? I see the vette servo upgrade but it just seems pointless w/out more power getting into that trans. Maybe it's just me.. reguardless, truck look pretty sweet.
If you can't say anything nice.. post it on the internet!

I one day plan on putting in a LS based motor in it. (probably a 5.3L)  Unfortunately, I am unemployed at the moment.  When I had a job, I had been saving up to buy a dd car so the truck would become the playtoy.

Nice truck, one thing I think you really need is a quick ratio steering gear. Other than that, great start!

How do you like the 555's as far as a street tire? Stuff like road noise, softness, wet grip.

Ahhh, ok. Just so you know I have a 4.8 short block & two sets of heads sitting in the garage.. All I want is to pull the bolts & a few little trinkets off.. I even got a good cam to go w/ it whenever I sell it. I just needed it for a couple small pieces to do the 6.0L LQ4/9 I've got. I'd let it go cheap.. & if you don't want it maybe Eric would.. IDK.

The tires are pretty quiet so far, the dry grip is excellent, but they are stiff, so the ride isn't as nice as it used to be (going from 16 to 17" wheels also added to that), and the wet grip is pretty fair, I haven't tried to push it too hard in the rain though.

I wouldn't mind getting it, but I need to save my money right now.

That's fully understandible. I've been unemployed 3 times.. I know what it's like. What state do you live in again?

That's a long drive.. & I know how much it costs to ship an engine from El Paso, TX to Chicago, IL.. ridiculous. When I had my BBC shipped up here it cost about $600.. that's more than I got the engine for.

just a small update.

still job hunting, so no money to put into the truck.

- picked up a blazer center console from the pick a part for $20.  needed a lot of cleaning but it's tan and everything's there.  saving it for an eventual bucket seat swap.

- fixed the light on the headlight switch panel.  I never knew that was suppose to light up till I had the bezel out the other day and noticed the bulb socket.  GM does not sell this bulb anymore, I had to go to radioshack and buy a bulb to replace the old bulb and put it in the socket.

- replaced the defrost vent panel on the dash with a new one from GM.  I've been waiting on this part for 6 months (backorder).  my old one fell apart into hundreds of pieces.
