Blazer Schustaffel
« on: August 21, 2009, 08:06:11 PM »
I've built it once & have taken it apart to redo it. This time it's different.. kinda. I pulled the small block I swapped in the the original 5 speed the blazer came w/ out. I dropped in a dummy BBC, borg-warner ST10 4 speed trans & 8.8 ford exploder rear. I've put tubular UCAs on for header clearance. I pulled the dash & thought of something else because I didn't feel like trying to figure out how to get a DRAC to work off a mechanical output trans & even though I like the modified surburban cluster, I couldn't keep it in my world... thus the '63 Galaxie dash. So to get everyone up to speed on my project I'll just start from here. ...I wish I had more space, the truck wasn't as far away & I had more money because I think I want to do something completely odd. I want to some day pull the blazer body off the farame & mount an early '60s VW van, or something like it, on the blazer frame. I'm also trying to figure out a way to mount C4 brakes on short spindles. Seems 1LE camaro abutment brackets & rotors would work. Camaro backing plates are the same.. aren't they? I may not do it that way though because I want seperate rotors/hubs. Anyways, here's some pix..

I haven't taken pix in a while. I hurt my back last week & still went to work but didn't do anything but. I didn't work on the truck.. nothing. It was raining when I did start to feel better.
I want to try both sets of those adapters. For some reason the 1st PDF I sent you doesn't seem quite right on the math between the holes on the spindle that originally mounted the backing plate. That's why I'm thinking the S10/C5 bracket modified a little looks like it'd work out fine. 130mm between abutment holes & the same 180 between the backing plate holes.

Maybe the end of next week we'll be done w/ the dash. It keeps rainging & I don't want to put an unfinished dash in my bed. Otherwise, I'd be working on it a little every night & bringing it back to work to work on lunch.
When I do get the dash done & ready to install.. I need to get the clutch masters swapped back to stock, finish welding the firewall closed, mount the remote oil fiter on the firewall, spray the firewall (inside) w/ undercoating & paint the engine bay side black, put the $38 Oxblood carpet down that I found on Ebay, mount the Auschwitz heater (mojave heater, as they are commonly known), ..I've got a lot to do but I just don't feel like driving out to the other house to do this anymore.

I brought the dash home to do some final Bondoing so I can hand the dash over to my buddy to finish welding in the glovebox & do the primer/paint.

Eric, you want my scrap perf metal? I've got about a 24x24 piece.. problably a little bigger than that.

Harley, they're attachments & IDK why they wouldn't show up for you.

Ricky, I sanded it as much as possible today at lunch. After work I handed off the dash to my buddy to finish sanding, filling, welding, priming & painting at his casa. Once I get it back I'll need to figure a way for the lights.. I think I may still have a new light switch from when I had my '74 Pontiac Catalina. So, I'll need to drill a hole for that & a hole for the heater switch. I think my buddy Julian does some great welding.
